WEST Coast is weighing up challenging star ruckman Nic Naitanui's one-match ban for a dangerous tackle, with coach Adam Simpson admitting he is mystified by the sanction.

Naitanui aggressively wrapped up Port Adelaide's Karl Amon and then landed on him in an incident which left the Power player with concussion during the fourth quarter of the Eagles' 42-point triumph at Optus Stadium.

Match Review Officer Michael Christian assessed the tackle as careless, medium impact and high contact, rubbing Naitanui out of Saturday's tough trip to face Greater Western Sydney.

"It's a bit of a headscratcher for me, personally," Simpson told Channel Seven.

"The vision I saw, he didn't have his arms pinned."

If the Eagles decide to challenge Naitanui's sanction and lose, the inspirational 201cm big man won't face an extra week on the sidelines, but the club will have to pay $10,000.

"We'll have to make a call on that tonight. Our lawyer is poring through the vision," Simpson said.

WEST Coast is heading to the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night to challenge Nic Naitanui's one-match ban for a dangerous tackle.

Naitanui tackled Port Adelaide's Karl Amon from behind midway through the final quarter of the Eagles' 42-point victory at Optus Stadium on Saturday and, as the Power player fell to the ground, landed directly on top of him.

Brayden Ainsworth’s former colts coach Beau Wardman has declared the midfielder ready to make his West Coast debut after a string of impressive WAFL performances.

The Eagles need to find a replacement for hamstrung midfielder Luke Shuey.

Ainsworth has been an emergency in five of the Eagles’ seven matches this year and has averaged 24 disposals, two tackles and two scoring shots for East Perth this season.

The 19-year-old earned All-Australian honours last season and impressed for Subiaco at both colts and reserves level.

Wardman attended Sunday’s game between East Perth and East Fremantle to watch his former on-baller and had no doubt Ainsworth could easily replace Shuey for Saturday’s match against Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium.

“I think he’s ready to go,” Wardman said. “All the signs are there. When the game needed players to be physical and win their own ball, he did it.

“His efficiency with the ball has clearly improved this year.

“He’s got elite endurance and his ability to win the ball at ground level means he plays with the same style as Shuey.

“What I’ve always seen with him is his performances have always gone up when he’s gone up a level. He’s met every challenge and that’s what has set him apart from other players.”

Shuey is likely to miss three weeks

If he's already interstate wouldn't it take less time for him to get to Melbourne than if he was in Perth

    WHERE is Ben Cousins?

The West Coast premiership player, who rejoined the club in early February in a part-time role, has not been seen at the Eagles for more than a month, according to multiple sources.

Despite repeated attempts, West Coast could not be reached for comment on Tuesday but foxfooty.com.au has been told people around the 39-year-old share concerns about his health and welfare.

Hours after Cousins’ release from Acacia prison on January 10, the Eagles confirmed they had offered him a job in their community and game development department.

It’s understood he was doing all the right things by attending the club during his specified work hours until early April.

This followed 10 months in behind bars and a $2400 fine for stalking and repeated breaches of a violence restraining order against his ex-partner, Maylea Tinecheff, plus two drug-related charges.

The job was part of Cousins’ parole conditions, which also stipulated he must reside initially at his parent’s house in Bicton, a riverside suburb about 20 minutes from Subiaco Oval.

Michael Christian has had another go of explaining his decision today.

Says it was "pretty straight forward"...

The tackle was unreasonable in the circumstances as he drives his opponent into the ground with excessive force, with that player in a vulnerable position.

Even Danny Frawley is siding with Christian here. His point is equally as retarded.

The irony of people constantly complaining about players having bad tackling techniques that results in missed tackles or players raising the arm up over the shoulder or shrugging and forcing their arms down and tripping the player.

Someone finally puts their body into a tackle and grabs a guy around the waist, nah bad tackling technique

Trevor Nisbett has just announced that he only needed to turn up for work for 3months, his parole conditions said he only had to work there till April,so longer required to work at the club.

Still think it wouldn't hurt them to keep him on - worried that without it he will go completely off the rails again which sounds like it is already happening reading that post.

THE "EASIEST" case Match Review Officer Michael Christian has assessed this year was the decision to offer West Coast ruckman Nic Naitanui a one-match ban for his tackle on Port Adelaide's Karl Amon.

Amon was left concussed after the incident at Optus Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and the Eagles will fight the charge.

However, Christian told Melbourne radio station SEN on Tuesday it was a simple decision to make.

"Tackling is the most challenging part of this role, because it's obviously something you're allowed to do. But this one, for me, was the easiest that I've had to adjudicate on, because the rules around tackling are pretty simple in a sense: if a tackle is unreasonable in the circumstances," Christian said.

"Now that's the broad definition but when you nail it down, and the particular application here is where an opponent is driven into the ground with excessive force, particularly when the player tackled is in a vulnerable position, then that constitutes unreasonable in the circumstances, which is rough conduct, which is a charge.

"Once we determined that, then it's a question of impact. We've fined a number of players this year for dangerous tackles where the player has been able to get up after, you know, 10 seconds and play out the game or maybe go off for a minute and then come back on the ground, where that impact is low.

"In this particular case, considering the medical report from Port Adelaide, the impact was medium rather than low, hence the one-match sanction."

Really is a horrific decision and outcome for the game. Genuinely hope the Eagles keep going with the challenge as it's just a terrible decision in every way.

I hate the fucking rule but I've generally at least agreed with the application of it but this one is just fucking wrong.
