    AFL 2021 season

Season kick off on Friday with a good game in Collingwood vs Western Bulldogs. Do want to see the salty Pies fans boo Treloar for sure

There is a practice match on tonight with Richmond vs Carlton before that which seems a bit odd, but whatever

Very odd if you ask me. Keen as fuark for the Coleman medallist Kozshitzke to debut. Brockman as well. Will be nice to have a small forward who actually deserves a spot in the side. Haven't had one of those since Rioli retired.

Connor Downie a ready made prospect on the wing, very excited to see what he can do. Expecting to get dicked most weeks but individual development is the key this season. That said, I still feel Tom Phillips may well be one of the best, value for money signings of the off-season. Only the one warm up match to go off but he was very very good. 30 touches at 77%, 7 tackles and 11 score involvements. Like him a lot.

It's the end of the first quarter and Carlton haven't completely embarrassed themselves. This is new

Richmond ran over the top in the end but Carlton been better than in previous years.

Hated how BT and JB kept talking up the limited rotations and fatigue as a good thing. You want to see skills and great footy but you won't see that if teams are dead on their feet. You'll also see a lot more injuries in the coming weeks.

I'm sure it will be talked about all year but I just don't get that limited rotation rule. The AFL want the skilled players and those big burly full forwards of old as seen with the 6-6-6 rule change, then bring in the 75 rotations which basically says it's now survival of the fittest.

Thought it was great personally. Endurance becoming a vital skill again is something I'm all for

Too early to make a call on the effects the rules have made but I found it a pretty enjoyable game to watch.

Only real peeve was SPP running backwards after the mark was taken in front of him but still giving away a 50 for the area? Thought that was pretty shithouse.

hate the new on the mark rule.

Dont know which Carlton goal it, but the guy slotted it from outside 50 because he basically did a Buddy around the mark and, because of that, was able to kick it low because the guy on the mark was unable to close the angle and smoother it. Just doesn't seem right. and then you have they stupid 50 in the 2nd quarter.

It wasn't pretty to watch, but I did find the last 10 mins fun to watch when everyone was dead on their legs.

The new sub rule wont last past this week with teams going to sub people off with a bruised thumbnail and the like.

Common sense is if you get subbed out, you miss the next fortnight for example. The concept of concussion recovery is 10 days to assess so that would rule you out of the next 2 games so that should be the standard here

Agree. I think it'll happen at some point.

But that would mean the AFL was admitting they were wrong about something

That can still be abused by dragging a spud player who you don't want to play in the next 2 weeks anyway.

I thought the medical sub rule was strictly for concussion?

Treloar being booed makes a heap of sense. A heap.

I kind of think Grundy gets dropped by mid year. He is a fat sack of crap. How the fuck did they let him get into that condition

so, basically, it is a sub-rule from the mid-2010's again. 2nd try a charm???

as if someone will not get "injured" in the 3rd quarter sometime.

JB and BTs constant talk of the new rules and acting like they're perfect is pissing me off something big.

The 50 paid in the 2nd qtr for moving on the mark was not there and they are acting like it's super easy to know and follow.

The new on the mark rule reminds me of that John Hewson's GST question interview thingy from the 1990's. The one about the cake and he fails to explain what gets GST attached to it and what doesn't.

perhaps it is a good idea, but the current rule just stinks of a badly crafted rule. The 50 in the 2nd quarter, where the umpires says to the defender that they got to look for them and not the player with the ball is a perfect indication of that.
