    First run in over a month, just the usual loop around the tan. Had a short pause at the top of Anderson Street but powered through the rest of it. Motivation is so low at the moment, I miss the gym so much and am pretty physically drained from work every day but weather is nicer so will try and incorporate more pre-work runs in.

    Any interest in a RZ Strava Group for those newb runners?

    Legs died after 2.5km, was going at 5min/km and breathing etc was fine.

    I think combination of no stretching, new shoes and shit ankle mobility due to rolled ankle fucks me.

    Nothing too troubling just tightness, so will go again this week. Happens quite a bit actually, usually if I stop and stretch (ie warm up for sport) I can restart without issue but not ideal when it's just a run.

    Never been a stretcher myself, it's interesting that it just never seemed to have a point to me and now all the research is supporting that.

    Was always a bit of a pacer before sports so was effectively doing a dynamic warm-up before that even was a thing.

    It's genuinely interesting how little we still know about sports science and how much of it is literally just old wives' tales.

    Gym is so hard right now, so weak and so unfit it's not funny. Couldn't even hold a 5:00m pace for 5km, had me thinking back to when we had to do back to back 3km in under 13 minutes with a 2 minute break for footy training and how that was easy and now I wanted to die about 1200m in at 12.5km/h on a treadmill!

    Benching 85kg also seems so pathetic, admittedly doing sets of 10 now instead of 8 but it's still an awfully long way off where I should be and even further from where I once was! Welcome to being old, fat and weak I guess!

    I would've thought some time with a knowledgeable PT/Physio would be able to get your leg and core muscles strengthened up to stop that from happening.

    I went to a physio for my ankle but I was pretty half assed about it and also continued playing when the physio told me not to which definitely didn't help, every time it was feeling better id end up taking a step back until the point it just never improved.

    Ankle ROM is still pretty average so I'm fairly sure this is the main factor.

    I've got some exercises to do on ankle and foot strength, just a case of knuckling down and actually doing them.
