First run in over a month, just the usual loop around the tan. Had a short pause at the top of Anderson Street but powered through the rest of it. Motivation is so low at the moment, I miss the gym so much and am pretty physically drained from work every day but weather is nicer so will try and incorporate more pre-work runs in.

Any interest in a RZ Strava Group for those newb runners?

Keen on strava group. Might run tonight. Totally ditched my weekend plans for a run.

    Yeah in.

Have any of you ever used the fly-by feature? Would be funny to see if any of us ended running past each other without knowing.

Legs died after 2.5km, was going at 5min/km and breathing etc was fine.

I think combination of no stretching, new shoes and shit ankle mobility due to rolled ankle fucks me.

Nothing too troubling just tightness, so will go again this week. Happens quite a bit actually, usually if I stop and stretch (ie warm up for sport) I can restart without issue but not ideal when it's just a run.

Never been a stretcher myself, it's interesting that it just never seemed to have a point to me and now all the research is supporting that.

Was always a bit of a pacer before sports so was effectively doing a dynamic warm-up before that even was a thing.

It's genuinely interesting how little we still know about sports science and how much of it is literally just old wives' tales.

Gym is so hard right now, so weak and so unfit it's not funny. Couldn't even hold a 5:00m pace for 5km, had me thinking back to when we had to do back to back 3km in under 13 minutes with a 2 minute break for footy training and how that was easy and now I wanted to die about 1200m in at 12.5km/h on a treadmill!

Benching 85kg also seems so pathetic, admittedly doing sets of 10 now instead of 8 but it's still an awfully long way off where I should be and even further from where I once was! Welcome to being old, fat and weak I guess!

I would've thought some time with a knowledgeable PT/Physio would be able to get your leg and core muscles strengthened up to stop that from happening.

I went to a physio for my ankle but I was pretty half assed about it and also continued playing when the physio told me not to which definitely didn't help, every time it was feeling better id end up taking a step back until the point it just never improved.

Ankle ROM is still pretty average so I'm fairly sure this is the main factor.

I've got some exercises to do on ankle and foot strength, just a case of knuckling down and actually doing them.

11km in sub 18mins is my best.

Twice, through morning peak hour traffic.

On a bike, of course. Running sucks.

Bit the bullet and ordered clipless pedals. Looking forward to stacking it at the lights when I forget to disengage.

Had clipless pedals specific for off-road. Were excellent. Shimano XTR Trails. Much easier function than traditional cleats and longevity is superior.

I now ride BMX pedals for the versatility, surface area and freedom. Having the feet attached or braced is too dangerous. Horrifying accident due to being unable to release from the pedals. Cautionary tale...

Weighed in at 94.6kg this morning. Not the heaviest I’ve been but I’m comfortably in the worst shape of my life (when I was heavier I was bulking for a powerlifting comp), went for a run/walk around my parents place today, super hilly terrain did 5km in 46 minutes with 98m gained. Obviously slow as fuck but will just be aiming to get a bit quicker every week.

My parents have a fairly shitty home gym setup which I’ll use a bit as well. Hopefully with a decent diet I can drop a bit of weight.

Haven't been exercising but have been doing OMAD (one meal a day) 5 days a week for the past 3 weeks and I've lost 2.5 kgs

Down to 78.4kg which is probably the lightest since late 2018.

Strength is reasonable but hard to tell since I've just been doing the same lifts at home for 3 months. Hit some PBs running earlier this week as well, 5km in 23.29 into 10km at 48.02 (think that's about 4min 48 per km).

Also acquired a bike and put an EOI in for local tri club

Did sweet fuck all for a while after posting about running here but am ramping up due to pre season starting. Mostly want to get some good KMs in my legs and be able to do 5min/km comfortably. Hopefully won't take long.

    21st Dec - 4.96km @ 5.22 (26:39)
Nothing for a while largely on account of xmas + baby

    7th Jan - 5km @ 5.25 (27:06), heat destroyed me

9th Jan - did a HIIT class, fucking death

    10th Jan - 10min of running (c. 2km), 5m rest, 6min (1.2km), 3min rest, 6min run, 3min rest, 6min run, 2 min rest, 6 min run (all up about 6.5km)

11th Jan - 2.65km @ 5.30 (14:35) run with dog (few toilet breaks, will let you decide for who)
