How much does the land cost?

What would $550k get me in Perth.

..why am I doing this to myself.

Join us. Jump on the Toast bandwagon while you're at it.

I'm sure you could get somewhere nice in Victoria Park and the name will still make you feel like home.

Don't do it to yourself. Here's me looking in the area where I'm currently renting a small house that sold 2 years ago for 2.2 mil.

Must be great yield for the investor

Need to go back to the bank to see how much they'll lend me the stingy cunts. Can't wait to buy a place and then for everything to go to shit post-JobKeeper cliff in March

Probably say 600-700sqm block in a area about 15-20 mins from the CBD (Balcatta area)

Not many blocks in Perth in that price range since no one would pay that much. Most blocks are 100-400,000 in new developments. Extremely rare to go over 400k in a development.

They're planning on developing the block eventually so we're just temporary tenants - covid has pushed back all their plans, so we get an amazing deal on rent in a place in literally my ideal location I'm holding out for a little longer before buying, hoping for a bit of a decrease

Yeah 550k on just land should find you a block just about anywhere outside of the golden triangle really.

There's plenty of options at 550k House and land, but you're going either north or south 30km+ of the city or going into some of the less desireable suburbs 10km or so from the city (balga, westminster area)

I live about 30km North of cbd, its a nice area and close to the beach. Top notch amenities in surrounding burbs (land one suburb over closer to the beach goes for 500k), good shops nearby, schools are not bad and pretty low crime rates. There was land here but I think it's all been snatched up, that was selling for about 300k I believe for 375sqm.

If I didn't work in the city it would be pretty ideal, up to an hour in peak hour can take its toll. Working from home (still doing a couple days from home every week) has been great, means I can actually get out and enjoy the sun, take the dog to the beach after work etc

Was looking at what like 450k in Brisbane would get me last year which I was amazed with compared it to some of the absolute shitholes I've checked out that go for 500k in Melbourne....

Feel like I'm going to be watching forever. The idea of being like 350-400k in debt is a tough pill to swallow, especially on something that feels a bit meh.

I honestly don't know why people would stay in Sydney and Melbourne at this point. Sure the nightlife is better but it's not 2-3x the asking price for similar shit better and the beaches are much better in Perth (or QLD). You get paid as much or more over here as well.

$550k all up can get you places in Innaloo, Scarborough (pushing the limit) or Coogee if you prefer the Freo vibe. Alternatively places like Rivervale, Morley or Carlisle type places would also be in play. Rivervale is about 10-15 mintues from the CBD in peak hour, Scarborough has one of the best urban beaches in the world and is 15 minutes from the city without traffic but a bit of a dick for public transport to be honest. Coogee you'd train to the city rather than drive or work in Freo but is also a decent beach region.

The whole Dan Andrews factor would just make it an even better reason to be getting the fuck out of Victoria right now though, guy's clearly a narcissistic dickhead at absolute best.

Throw in that we currently have $55,000 in home builder grants going on and you could literally get half your deposit for nothing.

Only negative is that the land and building companies are trying their best to get every dollar of those grants into their margins. Have spoken to a few brokers who said a lot of deals are falling apart because the bank valuations are too far apart from price paid. Means there probably will be a ton of land and house guys desperate to close deals in the next month to get the grants at more reasonable prices.

There are admirable qualities which life in Perth can provide but I do not believe they are attractive enough to justify relocation from Melbourne.

Nice weather? I detest the Mediterranean climate and hot weather of Perth.

I also have no interest in Asian cultures or destinations.

I like southern Victoria due to the cool climate.

The house im building right, you got the bed door, then you turn the corner to the walk in robe, then the bathroom, no door in either. Everyone thinks its odd I dont have a door for the bathroom.

Am I the only one who thinks why would you? You are putting a door behind a ball behind a door.

WTF does everyone want 1000s of doors for. Leave it open I say

So when you drop a big deuce or have a hot shower the fan just goes to work to deal with it and you donít end up with air flow creating a stanky/steamy bedroom

Yes. Why have a fan there at all if you want too lock down your house to escape the smell?
