Just finished watching The Witcher - having never played the game or read the book. Thought it was solid however I found the timeline super confusing as it seemed to jump decades, start at one point, go back in time and then catch up but with nothing aging or them not really ever stating it, I found it to be rather confusing.

It is a little confusing so I'll try and give a general idea. Note: I haven't read the books as yet, only played the games, which are set after the events in the books. TV show is based on events in the books. Hopefully spoiler tags are working properly.

Generally, there are around 4 periods of time covered in the first season:

Time 1: Yennefer's upbringing and training. This starts at the start of Episode 2

Time 2: Geralt's introduction at the start of Episode 1. This is probably around 30+ (could be 50) years after Time 1 and goes until Jaskier (Dandelion) is introduced. Estimate Jaskier to be around 20 at this time

Time 3: Geralt and Jaskier. This follows directly on from Time 2 and includes events like banquet in Cintra for Queen Calanthe (Episode 4) and then the events with both Geralt and Yennefer. This period lasts around 10-15 years until we get to Time 4.

Time 4: Ciri's timeline (current time). Starts with the fall of Cintra and ends with the big battle of Sodden Hill.

What was weird I didn't even realise there was timelines

It was when he said he had known the bard for 10 years that something registered, then I realised I had no idea what was going on

Given no one ages and they don't state it with a scene as such, I had no idea either until they were saying that either - along with the Witch.

When you've lived through as many timelines as narkee everything is easy.

Witcher is fine but it's an ugly show. Netflix cheaped out on the cinematography for some reason which is a shame because the games are visually breathtaking

Netflix has released a map and timeline for the Witcher TV series which highlights all the major locations, events and shows all three main character timelines as well as a world timeline. Note that this is show only and from what I read there are some significant changes compared to the books, such as when Yennefer was born.

It's funny you say that because there have been a lot of people complaining that the actress wasn't beautiful enough given Yennefer is considered one of if not the most beautiful woman in that world.

I thought the casting was well done. It's difficult to get an actress whose look you can transform so much from start to finish, thought she did a really good job.
