What the fuck happened to Tommy Oar?

He was playing regularly for Australia and Utrecht. There was talk of him signing to a bigger club in Italy or England. He hasn't played for Australia since the last world cup I don't think.

So many talented young players who should be pushing for the Australian squad currently doing nothing.

Jamie Gorgovski 19 - Spent a few years on Dortmunds youth team. Currently not on a professional squad
Kwame Yeboah 24 - Went to Monchengladbach in 2014, never played for the senior side. Currently in 3.Liga on loan
Mustafa Amini 25 - Signed with Dortmund in 2011, never played for the senior squad. Currently in the Danish League. At least is playing regular senior football. 2 games for Austra
Josh Brillante 25 - Fiorentina in 2014. Was loaned out a few times but didn't do anything in Italy. Back in the Aleague. Selected in the 26 man preliminary squad for the world cup
Xane Zaineddine 19 - No idea what the fuck happened to this kid. Was being hunted by Juve and Real as a junior. Massive hype around him but heard nothing in a few years
Daniel De Silva 21 - Possibly the most hyped Australian youth since Kewell. Signed with Roma in 2014 but then they decided not to pay the transfer fee. Spent a few years at Roda FC in the Netherlands. Hasn't been super impressive since he came back to Australia in 2017

Ben Halloran was supposed to be something too.

I think it is one of those things where I was born with a crop of awesome and then I have kind of watered the gardens, tended to the farm and created this farmable mass of fantastic brilliance. I have so much to give and share out but just not enough hours in the day to give it all out.

The common denominator is leaving Australia too early or going to too big of a club.

It was necessary for the 'Golden Generation' since the NSL was part-time so people (journo's and particularly the players who left early who are key punditry figures, agents etc) are all still in that mindset. From wolfgang's list, lets look at their A-League appearances for those who developed here before moving:
    Yeboah (12)
    Amini (23)
    De Silva (33)

Think about how many those appearances would have been substitute appearances too, and all of a sudden they're signing for big Serie A or Bundesliga clubs. Same thing is going to happen to Theoharous from Victory, 19 games in the A-League (probably only a handful of starts) and he's off to Monchengladbach. Brillante is probably the odd one out with 50 appearances but Fiorentina were starting him when he was never near ready.

Look at someone like Mat Ryan, 80 appearances in the A-League, gets his move overseas and progresses. Mooy a different career path, but 100+ A-League appearances. Other mainstay's of the Socceroos side from the World Cup and their A-League appearances before moving overseas:
    Sainsbury (60)
    Behich (95)
    Kruse (lol) (60)
    MacLaren (90)

Only anomaly is Rogic who is a special talent and Arzani is clearly on the same path.

Embers has a point but I don't think it's fair to say he's been disappointing.

What was disappointing was just signing a long term deal with Celtic. He really needed to leave now and get to a better league to test himself.

Yeah Celtic should have been a stepping stone, not the end goal.

You could argue he's signed the long term deal to ensure that if he does leave Celtic get something back for him.

Arzani's going to go the Mooy route isn't he, sign for the berts but never play a game for them, be loaned somewhere he will get games, if he does well stay with them, if he does really well he's in the shop window for something bigger and better.

Rogics problem has been injuries. Just unable to get a consistent run of games.

Missed 2 months with a knee last season
Missed 3 months with an ankle in 16/17
    Pretty injury free in 15/16
Missed 4 months with a groin in 14/15

But it's really hard to develop as a player when you're missing half of every season injured

Was arguing with someone (Irish) about this yesterday. He said Kewell, but Kewell sure was better on paper but didn't really produce for us - well since Iran when he was great - and kind of wasted his career a bit, whereas Timmeh while a lesser talent became all he could've been and saved our arses time and again. Love him to bits tbh.

Leo Barry you beauty and Malceski's goal from the pocket (I was right behind it where I was sitting) are probably my top two with the Stefon Diggs catch likely to join them if it holds up as well as I expect it to because it's got the glorious combination of me remembering where I was when it happened, sadly of course it ended up with us getting thrashed the next week so not as good a story but still.
