Australia's selectors are reportedly set to produce a stunning surprise by picking promising Victorian batsman Will Pucovski in the Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka.

Pucovski has been tipped by multiple media outlets as a massive bolter for the squad, set to be announced later today, with trio Aaron Finch, Mitch Marsh and Shaun Marsh all reportedly set to miss selection in another batting overhaul following Australia's first-ever home Test series loss to India.

The 20-year-old made a remarkable 243 against Western Australia in the JLT Sheffield Shield last October, before taking what was labelled at the time an "indefinite break" from cricket for treatment on a mental health-related illness.

The gifted right-hander, who dominated at under-age level before making his debut for Victoria, has suffered several concussions during his career that have slowed his progression.

He was hit on the head three times last season having also copped a blow fielding at short leg on his Shield debut in early 2017.

His double hundred was his second triple-figure score in his seventh first-class match, and after making one and 67 in his Shield comeback in December, his average sits at 49.00 – the highest of any active Australians in first-class cricket.

If Pucovski is to debut in Baggy Green in the series opener in Brisbane from January 24, he will be the youngest to do so since Matt Renshaw, who was also 20 (though a couple of months younger) when he received a similarly unlikely call-up to take on Pakistan two summers ago.

This part is what we donít seem to have done for anyone for a while. Always seems like the new clints get some tricky away tests, fail, then get booted. Meanwhile some of the others get chances at home, do well, fail away, get another chance at home and do well, repeat. Itís probably for the best some of the dud regulars failed at home this series

    Everyone's forgotten Handscomb.

Tremain unlucky to at least not be 12th man ahead of Siddle.

Reckon if it wasn't a pink ball test, Starc goes.

My top 6 would be :-

    Harris
    Burns
    Khawaja
    Labuschagne
    Head
    Pucovski

Renshaw to miss out, hasn't made enough runs this season.

Surely at 6 is the sensible place for a 20yo to come into the side? Not that you wonít be batting within 20 overs anyway with our team right now

Yeah probably the case, and also probably a view to not wanting to change the batting order more than it needs to be.

3 opening partnerships in 3 tests is a no go, so I reckon Harris/Khawaja opening again should be a lock. Head at 5 again. They chose to go with Labuschagne at 3 in Sydney, probably deserves another go at it, be a bit harsh playing him at 6 again, but I suspect it'll occur. Burns seems a straight swap for Marsh. So probably comes down to 3 and 6, whether they want Pucovski at his best spot or ease him in at 6, or give Lambo another go at 3. Or they figure Renshaw is the best option for a reliable bat after an early wicket and bring him in instead.

I think Burns is the only lock inclusion as the rest aren't really middle order batsmen.

Says plenty about our keeping stocks that a) Wade is definitely never going to get a call up again and b) Tassie's third choice keeper is the next in line if Paine's finger shatters.

Burns will open of that much I'm sure. On the record as saying he is physically sick when he bats in the middle order.

Agree on pleb Wade being finished, can only blame himself for that. With Carey in the ODI squad, it really is one of those random calls. Doran did have a lot of potential at one point, must be what they're clinging onto.

Would have liked to see Wade in. Looks like he's in the same boat as Maxy unfortunately.
