Most of you know how this works, but in case you don't, you get $200 million to create a 12-man test squad. I release groups of 15-20 players and round by round you send me your bids (I PM my bids to a third party before each round is announced to ensure no cheatsies). After everyone's bids are submitted, I collate them, and highest bid for each player wins. Results are released, and laughter or kudos ensue. At the end, we all vote to see who assembled the best squad. The player pool will consist of anyone who has represented a test playing nation over the last 18-24 months. There'll also be a round to include some of the better players from BANG/ZIM.

You're responsible for keeping track of your team and salary cap. Any infringements will be dealt with harshly, and if you're guilty of slowing down the game multiple times, I reserve the right to skip you for a subsequent round.

These have been a heap of fun in the past, so the more the merrier.

You can bid on multiple players per a round right?

Yep. But what Indie said (Y)

Yep. Just can't exceed your means with the sum of your bidding.

Knew I'd left something out! Thanks man.

This is particularly important for the later rounds, but there is NO BIDDING OUTSIDE YOUR MEANS.

i.e. If you've got $10 million left, and you want to bid on two players, you can't PM me saying, "I'll bid $10 mill on player A, but if I don't get him, whack $10 mill on player B."

hedgehog makes 9. Feel free to mention anyone I've forgotten.

Salary Cap: $200 million. Bids to be in WHOLE DOLLAR amounts, and the minimum bid if you want a player is $100,000. At this stage, it'll be 9 rounds x 15 players, but I'll go back over the records from 2013 to make sure there's no one I've missed.

Correct. But most people will have a surplus by the time the final round ends.

From there, they pick their final 12.

Oh Jesus Christ mate.

People are more than welcome to buy more than 12 players - as this is bound to happen anyway given the uncertain nature of the game. As I said above, I just need everyone to finish up with 11 + a 12th Man for final voting. Never said anywhere that people couldn't acquire more than 12.

As trigg (http://www.rollingzone.com.au/forum/members/trigg/) said, this is a common staple in the fantasy/draft games that I run. Don't think you've played many of these with me before, so

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

But my plan was to have a round at the end, where everyone sends me players who have not been available for bidding (i.e. players I've missed), and throw them in with players who did not receive a bid from the main rounds, and hopefully you can use your last million or so on those guys to complete your team.

Hope that makes sense?

200m has been the standard amount in any cricket auction I've played.

No issue imo, I have 14m to complete my team (2 players) and I've had no problem securing players.

How can you make an error with the salary cap? You do realise its not real money right.

The cap could be $1 or $100b but the same players are still worth the same proportion of your cap. The value of the cap itself is purely nominal.

You've only made 15 bids so far?

The salary cap is really just a nominal figure, the cap could be $100 and the process would be exactly the same.

We're getting 9 rounds of 15 players = 135 players, and we need 10 squads of 12 players = 120 so it's not like we'll run out of players.

Even if you're only joking, I was going to bring this up.

I usually allow trades for players and/or cash in games I run, but seeing as I forgot to state this at the start, it might have to be a consensus vote thing.

I'll put it to a vote when I release the next batch of players. Might help people complete their teams?

I have 0 players so far. Not like I've been conservative with my bids either. I think you've made an error with the salary cap + number of players here Spud.

Yeah, was a tad concerned I'd allowed too many people to play at this start. Might have hurt the numbers a tad.

Having said that, I just added 4-5 starters to my line up in one round, which shows how easily people can add to their team.

Gunna need people to update their caps in order to confirm whether or not we're in dire straits though.

EDIT: Actually, what James Pattinson, yeah_nah & hedgehog said.

5. Virat Kohli (30 tests, 2111 runs, average 43.08)
6. Moeen Ali - all rounder (7 tests, 286 runs, average 31.77. 22 wickets at an average of 28.09)
7. Brad Haddin (59 tests, 3078 runs, average 34.20, 230 catches & 6 stumpings)
8. Saeed Ajmal (35 tests, 178 wickets, average 28.10)
9. Mohammed Sharmi (9 Tests, 32 wickets, average 36.31)
10. Morne Morkel (59 tests, 204 wickets, average 29.90)
11. Mitchell Starc (13 tests, 43 wickets, average 35.34)

12th Man Rahat Ali (11 tests, 31 wickets, average 36.67)

2 experienced openers in Dilshan & Gambhir both averaging over 40 at the top of the order.
Very solid middle order with Faf/ KP/ Kohli
All-rounder in Ali who has made a solid start to his test career. Offers a decent 2nd spin option to the attack to support Ajmal.
A keeper averaging 34 with the bat with 236 test dismissals even though he has his distractors including me lol, it is a decent record.
The best spinner in the world (maybe Herath now or Lyon after Adelaide test lol) in Ajmal.
Genuine swing bowler in Sharmi who looks very promising.
Very awkward to play tall/fast bowler in Morkel who can extract bounce out of any wicket.
Starc & Ali round out the 12 as tall left arm fast bowlers than add variety to the attack.

Overall, feel I have a solid batting lineup with guns in KP & Kohli in the prime batting spots, keeper with a solid record & a balanced attack for all conditions with plenty of variety.

Why are people picking players that have retired or can not get a game for their country, terrible selections.

Batting order (Overall Stats in brackets)

1. Mohammad Hafeez - PAK (2640 runs @ 37.71, 7 x 100, 10 x 50, HS: 197) - Aves 64 from 11 innings in 2014.
2. Kraigg Braithwaite - WI (956 runs @ 38.24, 2 x 100, 6 x 50, HS: 212) - Averaging 90+ from 8 innings in 2014.
3. Younis Khan - PAK (8327 runs @ 53.37, 28 x 100, 29 x 50, HS: 313) - SIX tons & 2nd most runs in 2014.
4. Mahela Jayawardene* - SRL (11814 runs @ 49.84, 34 x 100, 50 x 50, HS: 374) - Top five run scorers in 2014
5. Ian Bell - ENG (7156 runs @ 45.00, 21 x 100, 42 x 50, HS: 235)
6. Marlon Samuels - WI (2983 runs @ 34.68, 5 x 100, 20 x 50, HS: 260)
7. Prasanna Jayawardene+ - SRL (2075 runs @ 30.51, 4 x 100, 5 x 50, HS: 154*, 119 x Catches, 32 x Stumpings)
8. Ishant Sharma - IND (179 wickets @ 37.25, SR: 66.8, BBI: 7/74) - More wickets than Broad, Harris + Southee (2014)
9. Kemar Roach - WI (111 wickets @ 25.98, SR: 49.9, BBI: 6/48) - Averaging a wicket every 44 balls in 2014.
10. Dilruwan Perera - SRL (36 wickets @ 30.08, SR: 60.5, BBI: 5/69) - 2nd only to Herath as a spinner this year.
11. Zaheer Khan - IND (311 wickets @ 32.94, SR: 60.4, BBI: 7/87)

Younis, Mahela & Bell make for a strong middle order, while Samuels and Prasanna also have decent batting credentials.

Hafeez is quality, though trading Vijay was silly, especially given his form against us. But 22-year old Braithwaite has averaged 90 in five matches this year.

Roach, Sharma & Zaheer form a solid fast bowling trio, while Perera has been the 2nd most successful spinner this calendar year with 36 wickets @ 30.08

Overall a balanced side, probably lacking a stud fast bowler.

11. Rangana Herath (SL, 260 wickets @ 29)

12th man: Hamish Rutherford (NZ)

This team is based around an elite bowling line-up, 3 of the top 7 bowlers in the world including the best spinner; Anderson, Broad and Herath.

The batting lineup is headlined by the opening combination and captain of what is arguably the greatest team of the post-Warne era. Smith, at his peak was the number 2 batsman in world cricket. The middle order is comprised of 2 of the strongest young batsmen in the game, notably Joe Root, currently the number 8 batsman in the game with 5 100s at 23. Similarly, Shehzad has 3 100s at age 23, and both are averaging roughly 50. Dhawan and Watling are both under 30 with strong starts to their career, Watling a strong keeper in his own right.

Keeper Matt Prior is in the very exclusive club of wicketkeepers who have ranked in the top 10 of the ICC batting ranking, and Broad's status of the number 4 ranked all rounder in the game underlines the depth of the batting line up.
