Two hours from the opening match, I guess we'd better open the thread on it. With Holland out for the tournament, I'm on the Strikers train for this one. He'd better not return early. Lets try something a little different, we know CA love to pick Test players off the back of BBL form, so everyone attempt to predict a relatively unknown batsman and bowler who will either be in the Pink Test squad or on the plane to India.

I'm gonna go with Mitch Swepson as my bowler and Alex Ross as my batsman.

Green Sydney v Pink Sydney tonight, I think Haddin plays for the pink ones so go green.

I meant more they have the worst batting, fielding and bowling as opposed to individuals.

Outside of Paine and Bailey I dont think any of the others get a game in any other side. Batting is very poor as far as big hitters go down the end too.

Bowling lacks any real wicket takers outside of Broad. Rest are just hoping they get smashed so hard someone catches it along the rope *cough Tait cough*

Heat on Brisbane skipper Brendon McCullum for slow overs rates, putting him at risk of suspension

Brisbane Heat could be without inspirational captain Brendon McCullum for their next KFC Big Bash match due to a potential over-rate suspension. The Heat took 96 minutes to complete their innings with the ball in Wednesday night’s encounter with Perth Scorchers, exceeding the 90-minute allowance by six minutes. The Brisbane franchise has already been penalised once this season for falling 5.5 minutes behind their over-rate – against the Hurricanes on December 30. That penalty resulted in a $500 fine for each playing member. The next penalty would be a suspension for captain McCullum, with the innings to be assessed on Thursday by the BBL match committee.

Heat captain McCullum suspended for Melbourne Stars clash after slow over rate offence at the Gabba

Brisbane Heat captain Brendon McCullum has been suspended for his side's crucial KFC Big Bash clash with the Melbourne Stars as a result of a slow over rate in their loss to the Perth Scorchers at the Gabba on Wednesday.

As the offence is McCullum's second for a slow over rate in BBL|06, he will be suspended for the "next match he is available for selection in". Brisbane have 14 days to advise if they will appeal the decision.

National duty should always override an irrelevant domestic competition. The larger portion of BBL viewers won't remember the result from two nights ago. Guarantee you ODI fans remember the result from Chris Lynn's debut. Even his first 6.

I agree the tournament has lost momentum due to the ODI series and teams being torn to shreds off the back of one or two BBL performances. Not sure how they can get around it scheduling wise tbh

I actually think Big Bash has been a bigger crowd pleaser 'fan wise' than the ODI's. My care factor goes Tests > BBL > ODI > international T20.

I don't disagree with it being a crowd pleaser, doesn't change the fact results are forgotten about before your head hits the pillow.

Heat beat them at the G without the bash brothers.

Scorchers have lost Mitch Marsh to ODIs, Willey for England duty, Voges injured for much of the comp.

Need decent depth to cover which it appears the stars lack.

That's half the side.

Also, you got a replacement for Willey.

Handscomb unexpected granted, sorry but I don't rate Stoinis, staggered he was picked tbh

Wouldn't you then expect to lose MMarsh?

So we've crossed out MMarsh, Willey has been replaced which leaves Voges who you just got back.

If anything, I'd be complaining about missing your bowlers.

He's totally ignored it on twitter. Tbh I don't think Lehmann is that far off it here. Didn't word it as well as he could have, but KP hasn't delivered a title, and when you're paying someone wages like they are, you expect that.

They're just about crippled with his current deal. Look at how bad their depth is.

What the hell has happened to him? Never thought he was going to be a star, but he did win the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year at the start of 2016 (although he wasn't even the best young player in his state, let alone in the country).

Fast forward 12 months, and he can barely get bat on ball in the BBL, and hasn't played a game in the Shield or Matador Cup for the Redbacks all season, while spudding it up in the Futures League too.

as for Boof, what do geeves say. KP had the nerve to criticise the selection policy and critical of Australia. Not in the cool group.
